Septoplasty is a surgery to correct a deformity in the nasal septum. The septum is the wall of cartilage and bone in the center of the nasal cavity. A crooked or deviated septum may block nasal passages. It can result from an injury or may be present even if you have never injured your nose.  A septoplasty is typically performed to improve airflow and improve sinus drainage.

The day of surgery, you will be asked to arrive at a surgical center or hospital. After check in, the patient will be taken to a pre-op room. From there, the patient will then be taken to the operating room and given a general anesthetic. To repair the deviated septum, your surgeon will reshape or trim the cartilage and bone the divides the nose. The patient will then be taken to the recovery room. Depending on the patient’s age and overall health, patients may be required to stay overnight for observation.
